Breakfast is normally served in the main dining/sitting room, but occasionally we overflow into the small dining room with the large inglenook fireplace. We try to make breakfast as varied as possible, so as well as a traditional English cooked breakfast guests can choose from porridge, cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit, fruit juice, ground coffee, a variety of teas including breakfast tea, Earl Grey, green, mint and decaffeinated, followed by brown or white toast, honey, marmalade, and a variety of jams some of which are homemade.
Our cooked breakfast typically consists of rashers of smoked back bacon, egg from our own free range chickens (however you like it, fried, scrambled or poached), locally made pork sausage, mushrooms and grilled tomato. Baked beans are available too if required, but if you only want something simple, like boiled eggs with soldiers, then just ask.
By the way, our chickens are ex battery hens which we rehomed in May 2012. They would otherwise have been slaughtered, so we are very pleased to give these great little birds a good home. They repay us with fabulous eggs with a full flavoured deep yellow yolk, a far cry from the watery yellow supermarket eggs we are all so familiar with.
We can prepare light packed lunches on request, though it’s always best if we have a bit of notice. Otherwise a traditional menu at a price that won’t break the bank is available at The Wheatsheaf next door - lunch every day except Sunday from 12 noon, and dinner on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6.30pm. Alternatively there are numerous pubs and restaurants in Crowborough and the surrounding area, have a look at our local ‘Things to Do’ page for some ideas of where to go and eat.
If you have special dietary requirements please let us know, and we will make every effort to meet your needs.
Following the most recent inspection of our kitchen and catering organisation by Wealden District Council’s environmental health officer, we were awarded the top grade.
